Proud as we are of this achievement, remember, we need to Keep Up the Sweep Up year round. To find out how you can help, check out UnLitter Us at PhiladelphiaStreets.com/UnLitterUs As part of the ongoing battle against litter, the City is putting 500 Big Belly Solar Powered trash cans along major commercial corridors; this in addition to the 500 already in place to reduce litter in Center City. It’s a big step in the right direction, but we know that a broader litter prevention strategy is needed. That’s what UnLitter Us is all about. We are using the momentum from the Philly Spring Cleanup to engage citizens in an ongoing effort to eliminate and prevent litter from invading our streets, sidewalks, parks and vacant lots. We’ll be partnering with community organizations to turn indifference into indignation, and apathy into action. Together, we’re going to make the City of Philadelphia the cleanest and greenest city in America. Get involved at PhiladelphiaStreets.com. Join the conversation for a litter free Philly on Facebook. Help your community even more
by filling out the 2010 Census
In this tough economy, we have all been forced to do more with fewer resources. This year’s Cleanup comes at a time when we can all do something free and easy to help change that. The 2010 Census population count will be used to determine how much federal money comes to your community – about $2500 per person -- for neighborhood revitalization, schools, parks, affordable housing, roads and programs like job training, children’s health care and head start. It’s pretty simple, more people means more money. While we’re cleaning up our neighborhoods on April 10th, we will spread the word to our neighbors – we’re counting on you to be counted! For more information about the Census, visit www.PhillyCounts.org or www.Census.gov

We did it! More than 11,000 volunteers at 231 official project sites used approximately 5,000 brooms, 3,000 rakes and 1,800 shovels to fill 48,000 trash bags with unsightly, unwanted litter. That’s how to clean up a City!
